The cookie banner
for your CMS.
Cookie plugins live inside your CMS, so a core, theme or plugin update can break them and take your GA4 and Google Ads tracking down too. Install Velo once, outside your CMS, with one line or one Google Tag Manager tag.
Velo or a
CMS plugin.
A cookie plugin is one more piece of your CMS to keep updated. Velo runs beside your CMS instead, so the banner stays put whatever changes inside it.
| What to check | Velo | A CMS cookie plugin |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Outside your CMS: one line in the page head, or one tag in Google Tag Manager | Inside your CMS, as an app, plugin or module |
| CMS, theme and plugin updates | Nothing to update on your side. Velo serves the script, so a site update cannot break it | Updated with the rest of the site, and a core, theme or plugin update can break it |
| Moving to another CMS | Move the line. Your banner, settings and consent records stay in your Velo account | A new plugin on the new platform, set up again from the start |
| Sites on different platforms | One account and one consent log for all of them. Pro covers unlimited sites | A separate plugin and setup on each site |
| Google Consent Mode v2 | Defaults set before your other tags run, advanced mode included, on every plan | Varies by plugin. Check that it sets the defaults before your tags load |
| Rules by visitor location | Picked at the edge for each visitor: opt in where the law asks for it, opt out elsewhere, Global Privacy Control honoured | Varies by plugin. Some apply one rule set to every visitor |
| Page weight | One script of at most 30KB that does not block the page from rendering | Varies by plugin, on top of the scripts your CMS already loads |
Set up once,
then forget it.
Three things a cookie banner has to get right, whichever CMS your site runs on.
Install once, outside your CMS
Skip the plugin. Add Velo with one line in the head of your pages, or with the Velo template in Google Tag Manager.
- The Velo CMP template is in the Tag Manager Community Template Gallery
- One setup that survives every CMS, theme and plugin update
- Works with the Tag Manager container and tags you already run
Rules for where each visitor is
Velo reads each visitor's country at the edge and picks the rules before the banner shows.
- Opt in across the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Argentina
- Opt out where US state laws call for it, Global Privacy Control honoured
- Reject next to Accept, and every choice saved to your consent records
Light on your pages
One script, served by Velo, that does not hold up the page your visitors came for.
- At most 30KB, and it does not block rendering
- Sets the Consent Mode defaults as it loads, then shows the banner
- Nine banner languages, picked from the visitor's browser
Works on
your CMS.
Velo needs one line in the page head, or one tag in Google Tag Manager. Each platform has its own page and a step by step install guide that shows where the line goes.

One line in your site header, through Code Snippets → Header & Footer. Works on any WordPress install.
Shopify
One line in theme.liquid, under Themes → Edit code. Any Shopify plan, no app needed.

One line in the Head code field, under Site settings → Custom code. Needs a paid site plan.

One line in Settings → Custom code → Head. Needs a Premium plan with a connected domain.

Google Tag Manager

Live in
three steps.
Three steps from sign up to a live banner, on any CMS.
-
01
Create a free account
Sign up and add your site in the Velo console. It gets its own site id and snippet. You do not need a card.
-
02
Add one line, or one tag
Paste the snippet into the head of every page, above your analytics and advertising tags. On Google Tag Manager, import the Velo template and fire it on the Consent Initialization trigger instead.
The snippet<script src="https://cdn.veloconsent.com/v1/velo.js" data-api="https://app.veloconsent.com" data-velo-site="your-site-id" async></script> -
03
Publish and check
Publish, then open the site in a private window. Accept, reject and change your choice, and watch the console mark the site as installed once real traffic arrives. Get started covers every step.
Before you
switch.
What people ask before they replace a cookie plugin with Velo.
Does Velo work with my CMS?
Yes, if you can add a script to the head of every page, or your site runs Google Tag Manager. There are install guides for WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Framer, HubSpot, Drupal, Square Online, BigCommerce, Duda and Shopware, all listed on Platforms.
Will Velo slow down my site?
Velo is one script of at most 30KB that does not block the page from rendering. It sets the Consent Mode defaults as it loads, then shows the banner.
Do I need a developer to install it?
Usually not. On most platforms the line goes into a head or custom code field in the site settings, and the install guide for your platform shows where. Some platforms offer that field only on paid plans, and the guide says which. On Google Tag Manager you import the template and set your site id.
Does Velo only cover the GDPR?
No. Velo picks the rules by visitor location: opt in consent across the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and Argentina, and opt out where US state laws call for it, with Global Privacy Control honoured. No banner makes a site compliant on its own: your cookie policy and your tags respecting consent count too.
Will the banner match my site's design?
Choose a corner, a bar or a centred box, set your colours, a light or dark theme and the corner radius, and edit the wording in each language. Pro adds your own logo in place of the Velo badge.
What if I already have a cookie plugin?
Run one banner, not two. Install Velo, then turn off or remove the old plugin in the same change, so visitors never see two banners and Google never gets two sets of Consent Mode defaults.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. Velo Free covers one site and 1,500 sessions a month, with Velo branding and one manual scan a month, and you do not need a card. Pro starts at €7 a month before VAT. See what Free includes.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Pro is billed monthly, and you can change plans or cancel any time from your workspace. Cancelling stops the next charge.
