Install
with your assistant.

Copy the prompt and send it to your assistant as your first message. It does the install for you: Google Tag Manager first, the one line snippet as the fallback, then the checks that prove the banner works.

Install prompt · Google Tag Manager
Install Velo on Google Tag Manager. Current guide: https://veloconsent.com/google-tag-manager First, ask me for my Velo site ID and wait for my answer before you do anything else. It is in the Velo dashboard at https://app.veloconsent.com/configuration, in the Site card, labelled Site id. It is also the data-velo-site value in my installation snippet. If I do not have a Velo account yet, tell me to create one free at https://app.veloconsent.com/signup and add my site, then ask again. Once you have the site ID, ask me for my complete installation snippet too if you need it: it is in the Install card on the same Configuration page. Confirm which consent tool and measurement tags already run on the site. Choose one installation route: A. If the site already uses Google Tag Manager, add the Velo CMP template (published by ampliodata) from the Community Template Gallery. Set the site ID I gave you, choose the theme, and set the API endpoint to the data-api value in my snippet. Review the advanced options; both default to off. Use Consent Initialization – All Pages, then Preview and verify consent before publishing. Full steps: https://veloconsent.com/google-tag-manager Preserve unrelated code. Avoid duplicate Velo installs or competing consent defaults. Do not assume a head placement or async loading alone guarantees tag order. Check the published site in a fresh session. Verify the banner under the configured region rules, initial consent defaults, accept/reject updates and the velo_consent_update event. Check that non-Google tags follow their assigned categories. Test a second page and any separate checkout surface. Confirm signals reach the Velo dashboard. Report what changed, where it changed and the result of each check. Describe any missing access or checks you could not complete.

Your assistant asks for your site ID first. It is on the Configuration page of the Velo dashboard. No account yet? Create one free. Rather do it by hand? Every platform has a step by step install guide.

One prompt.
The whole install.

It is the prompt our install guides and the Velo console hand out, set to ask for your site ID first. It tells the agent which route to take, the order the tags have to load in, and what to check on the live site before it reports back.

Working with an agent that reads the web? Point it at veloconsent.com/llms.txt and /install.md for the same context in plain text.

Installing
with AI.

What people ask before they hand the install to an assistant.

Can ChatGPT or Claude install Velo without access to my site?

It depends on what the assistant can reach. In a plain chat it cannot change your site, so it walks you through each step and you make the edits. An assistant that can edit your code or work in your browser, like Cursor, can make the changes itself. Either way it reports what changed and the result of each check.

Where do I find my site ID?

In the Velo dashboard, on the Configuration page, in the Site card. It is also the data-velo-site value in your installation snippet. No account yet? Create one free and add your site first.

Is it safe to share my site ID with an AI assistant?

Yes. The site ID is not a secret: it ships in the snippet on every page of your site, so anyone can read it in the page source. The prompt never asks for passwords or for your Tag Manager login, and you should not paste them into a chat.

Will it use Google Tag Manager or the snippet?

The prompt has the assistant check first. If your site already runs Google Tag Manager, it adds the Velo CMP template on the Consent Initialization trigger. If not, it pastes the snippet into the page head the way your platform expects. It installs one route only, because two installs mean two banners and conflicting consent defaults.

How do I know the install worked?

The prompt ends with checks on the live site in a fresh session: the banner under your region rules, the default consent state, accept and reject updates, and a second page. The assistant reports each result and anything it could not test. When consent signals show up in your Velo dashboard, the install is live.

Can I use another assistant?

Yes. The prompt is plain text, so you can paste it into Gemini, Copilot, Windsurf or any assistant you already use. Picking ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor above only adds a link that opens a new chat with the prompt filled in.
